Denim is a staple part of both men and women’s clothing collections, with a year-round material that is easy to style. With it being so popular, it’s important to find different ways to style denim to keep it looking fresh, particularly within your menswear collection.

As we draw closer to the end of summer, you’ll also no doubt be looking for transitional styles to update your collection too. Denim is the ultimate transitional material for you to incorporate, no matter the weather. With that in mind, here are just 5 different ways to style men’s denim and keep your collection interesting.

Double denim

There has been a love-hate relationship with double denim over the years; the infamous matching look worn by Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears in 2001 comes to mind. However, double denim can look stylish if it’s done with care and attention.

One of the most effortless and subtle ways to pull off double denim is to pair different coloured washes together. For example, a light blue denim jacket with black jeans barely even looks like double denim. It’s a great way to show off your denim pieces together. With denim shirts, jeans, denim jackets and shorts, experiment with washes and finishes to make double denim cool for 2020 and beyond.

Layered denim

A classic way to create a fresh look with denim is to layer. Layering has always been a popular way to show off different pieces in one look. You can’t beat a denim jacket paired over a simple white t-shirt for an everyday look; keep an eye out for unique detail like stripe tape, contrast sleeves and hooded denim jackets.

Layer a shirt or denim jacket over a graphic printed t-shirt for added detail, or just keep it simple!

Smart vs casual

Denim is generally quite casual, but its versatility means you can take it either way depending on what look you’re hoping to achieve. Use denim to show off both smart and casual styles and demonstrate just how much you can get out of the material.

Light washes like our acid wash denim jacket, as well as vintage washes, are perfectly suited to casual styles, paired with t-shirts, hoodies and trainers for an effortless off-duty look.

Darker denim washes like indigo or charcoal can be styled with smarter attire, like our charcoal stripe detail jeans. Darker washes can be worn with smart shirts and shoes for evening or work-wear, maintaining a more formal look without the need for a full suit!

Tailored denim

Similarly, there’s no reason why in 2020 you can’t style denim with more tailored pieces. Mixing streetwear-inspired pieces with tailoring has become an incredibly popular style over the last couple of years, so incorporate this into your collection and offer some fresh inspiration.

Jeans with a dinner jacket is a great example of this. Just remember the jeans should be slim with a simple style, and in a darker wash!

Size & cut

No matter what denim styles you have in your collection, the sizing and the cut is everything when trying to create a stylish look. If denim doesn’t fit right, then it won’t look as well-finished.

Consider investing in denim pieces that offer slim or skinny fits, with on-trend detail like distressed panels and biker detailing that can be styled to create a variety of looks. The size and cut is so important to make sure denim continues to have a modern look and keep up with the latest trends.
